MEDITECH adjusts their share prices and dividend rates at the end of this month, as well setting the percentage for their employee annual bonus. Anyone have ideas about what those numbers will look like, and what they mean for MEDITECH, both last year and looking forward to 2012 and beyond?
Please share your ideas in the comments.
The last shareholder information was published for third quarter - the trust bought common stock back at $42 per share, which is up $2 from January 2011 prices. We’re guessing it’ll ring in around $43 per share this quarter. The cash dividend rate was $0.67 for last year – what do you think it’ll be this year?

“Re: Dell Services. Has laid off over 20 folks in their Meditech Solutions Group, with more to come across the legacy Perot Systems Healthcare. With Berk Smith departing, Meditech is not letting up on the C/S 6.0, which is killing MSG. Without competition, they are not able to break away from Meditech and say no to them on deals. Dell is getting less and less interested in that business because it costs a great deal to run, with a very high exec in Round Rock telling me the ROI isn’t there. They will be evaluating whether to keep it running in January.”

From Observer: “Re: Flagler Hospital, St. Augustine, FL. Replacing Meditech with Allscripts Sunrise, which beat Epic and Cerner as well. It’s a 300-bed HealthGrades Best 50 hospital.” Unverified, although I had heard that an unidentified hospital had signed on.

From Cabrito: “Re: Meditech. I hear that customers upgrading to 6.0 are required to buy all hardware from Dell, pay Dell an enormous implementation fee, and pay ongoing fees to Dell for maintenance. If they choose not to do so, they have to pay Meditech to certify the hardware. This smells of the East Coast good ol’ boys club. Does 6.0 really require hardware that’s all that different from Dell or any other vendor?”

Jimmy Says:
Just got back from attending MUSE International (Meditech user group). Well attended by both users (around 3,000) and vendors. It was held at the Gaylord Opryland Resort in Nashville. From the clinicians point of view, MU was on everyone’s mind with quite a few tracks on how to meet it; mainly reporting. At least, that’s according to my co-worker who attended with me, a clinical analyst. Another interesting tidbit was the confession by a HIMSS stage 7 hospital that they were surprised when they found they didn’t have everything in place to meet MU.
For the technical minded (i.e. me), VDI (virtual desktop using VMWare) and cloud computing were the topics. An interesting nugget: during one session a person who works closely with MT predicted that Meditech version 7 would be browser based. Also, 3 tier storage was discussed.

NotQuite Says: Your comments imply that Epic is the only company making hospital sales. Don’t forget about Meditech, whose customers are less well known. Meditech is very quietly selling many systems and is extraordinarily successful.
[From Mr. H] I qualified my statements specifically as being “in their target market of large academic medical centers.” I doubt there are many (any?) cases where Epic and Meditech compete for a deal.

Apparently MEDITECH is a topic at HISTalk today; there were three unverified submissions. Anyone know more?
From KoolAidKid: “Re: vendor market share. Numbers I’ve heard suggest that Epic gained 100 new hospital customers in the past year. Nobody else was close and GE and Meditech both had a net loss of sites.” Unverified.
From Peter the Rock: “Re: Dell Services. Has frozen all Meditech hiring for an undetermined amount of time for them to review their financial stability.” Unverified. Update: Dell says this isn’t true. I’ve offered to run their response if they want to provide one.
From Lawrencium: “Re: Siemens. They are gaining momentum, especially in small hospitals looking to replace Meditech and considering Soarian. New deals coming toward the end of this quarter and new key talent being recruited.” Unverified.

From Bill Belichick: “Re: Meditech. They will be buying out ambulatory partner LSS and will oversee future product development and business planning. I believe it will most likely be announced by Meditech following their next board meeting this month. This will get Meditech right into the ambulatory market and add much credibility to the product line with the new Meditech branding. It will likely offer customers much more competitive pricing.” Unverified, that but sounds like a good strategic move.

“Re: Meditech. On a conference call last week, they said customers will need to purchase their data repository to meet the requirement for electronic capture of quality measures. Nothing on their site, no press release. No other customers that I know have been made aware.” Unverified. I e-mailed the Meditech press contact, but haven’t heard back.
